Mangawhai Beach & Country Market  ...on advertised dates  Sundays  9-1pm Twilight markets  Saturdays  3-6pm
August 30 2012
The Mangawhai Beach & Country Market began it's first season in the summer of 2009 and has continued to grow and gain momentum ever since.  We have gone from strength to strength and can now boast stall-holders from as far north as Kerikeri and south as Waikato.  This market is now very much part of the "summer scene" in Mangawhai much to our delight. Running from Labour Weekend through to Easter it is very well supported by locals and the many visitors to our fantastic and popular beachside location  and prides itself on the friendly atmosphere.  Sue has created this market after realising that there was a real desire for people to gather on a sunday morning - do some shopping-see friends - bring the kids - get to know the locals - have a coffee while enjoying our live music and even walk the dog !! Now it has become " the place to be on a sunday morning "  With the luxury of having the beach and the country at your fingertips coming to the Market is a must !! Here you will find quality goods and produce from local and surrounding areas and enjoy the real country market environment  You may even find treasures in the boot sale.  We look forward to seeing you there  ---- Stalls and carboot sites are available by contacting   Sue  Ph  0274586144  email    toriamartin@hotmail.com Sue also runs the Waipu Saturday Market held the first saturday of every month @ Coronation Hall

Artisans: Tree tomatoes - a savoury or sweet treat
May 25 2012
Les and Liz Holsted were sick of their busy corporate jobs in the city and decided to buy a block of land up north to get out of the rat race. "It was the mid-life crisis thing really," says Liz. "We had dreams of going to Italy for six months and learning to make limoncello while our lemon trees grew at home. When we got real about it, we saw it was a huge operation and started to think about alternatives."  read more

We walked in and immediately thought wow. This Mediterranean-style building houses the famous Bennetts of Mangawhai chocolate factory and a gelato shop as well as the cafe. All three face on to an internal cobblestoned courtyard and entrance. Inside, the cafe is light and spacious with lots of tables as well as a large one for communal dining or big groups. There is courtyard seating out the back too.  more...

Sporting a brand new sign to brighten up the outside of the shop and to promote the coastal theme of Mangawhai. On a recent trip through Tirau, Terry and Sue were most impressed with the look of the town where the corrugated sculptures of the ‘Iron Man’, Steve Clothier enhance the community and businesses alike. So they visited the workshop of Steve and Sheryn whose enthusiasm and expertise were infectious, resulting in the installation of the Naja sign last week.
