Mangawhai Newsletter August

mangawhai

August – the old English term for inspiring awe and admiration.

Here in the Winterless North, Mangawhai is tucked into the foothills of the Brynderwyn Range creating a micro climate unique to the area. Early buds are beginning to show and there is already new growth everywhere. Mangawhai is the retreat on your doorstep and most certainly awesome and inspiring.

boatMuseum

The Mangawhai Historical Society Inc owns and operates the Mangawhai Museum. Located on Molesworth Drive the Museum is a brilliantly designed building with a roof shaped like a stingray. Our name Mangawhai means “pathway of the Stingray” and there are various emblems and symbols of the stingray in the area. The Museum isn’t yet complete and relies on a dedicated Historical Society and local support and funds.
museumThe old museum in Moir Street, Mangawhai Village is currently closed for checking and cleaning of display items. Visitors are welcome to look around the outside of the building and the Old Post Office and Te Arai Library.
These buildings are typical early settler and transform so that you can almost hear the clip of horse hooves and the shouts from the wharf. The original wharf is just down the end of Moir Road beside the Tavern.
