Mangawhai Cliff-top Walk
Did you know that the beautiful Mangawhai Cliff-top walk is highly recommended by both DOC and Sport Northland? It’s an enjoyable and not too strenuous 2-3 hour loop walk which starts from the north end of Mangawhai Heads beach. If you want to do the return leg along the coastline, you’ll need to check the tides before you head off, as you can only walk along the coast on low tide. Pick up a tide chart from Mangawhai Fishing and Tackle and a Walkways Map from the Information Centre on Molesworth Drive.
To begin the walk, head down to the surf beach and walk to the left until you see the DOC sign for the start of the track. The track heads up some steps on the hill at the beginning, but don’t get disillusioned, as it quickly flattens out with fabulous views to savour, and the opportunity to spot marine mammals and sea birds. Remember to take your camera with you. More walks ...
