Mangawhai Museum Opening
Join us at the
Museum to acknowledge the Spirit of Mangawhai in a special first day.
With the Museums first scheduled day of December 7th getting ever closer, the team of volunteers at Mangawhai’s new museum are working full steam to ensure everything is ready on time.
Builders are working all out to finish the display area which has been built to the design of Chris Currie a specialist museum designer based in Rotorua. “We want the display not only to be interesting but also fun for both young and old, and Chris has done a great job of achieving that” says Lyn Johnson the museums project manager.
On Saturday December 6th the Museum will open it’s doors for a Community Day to celebrate the first “Spirit of Mangawhai”.
The day will commence at 5.30 am with a traditional blessing led by local Iwi followed by speeches and waiata. Everyone is welcome to attend with all formalities expected to be over by about 8.30 am.
At 10.00 am members of the Historical Society and volunteers who have helped to get to this day will get a chance to view the completed museum.
At 12 noon the museum will be officially opened to the public with visitors being welcomed by the Mangawhai beach School Kapa Haka group. For the rest of the day entrance to the museum will be free but donations will be welcome.
Mangawhai Bowling Club
With 2014 coming to end and everyone looking forward to enjoying Christmas and the summer holidays, Mangawhai bowlers can look back on a fantastic year. Over the summer holiday break Mangawhai will swell with visitors, many of whom are already aware of the fantastic facilities available at The Club in Mangawhai. It is here, the home of Mangawhai Bowls, where visitors and residents have the opportunity to try their hand at bowls.
Bowlers & Non-bowlers tournament
Non-bowlers are invited to put in a team and play a game of bowls at The Club at the annual Bowlers/Non-Bowlers day, Saturday December 28.
Rules are simple: a team of 4 people (men, women, mixed), only one registered bowler allowed per team (not compulsory; teams do not have to have a registered bowler and can be a group of 4 non-bowlers) and if a bowler is playing they have to play lead (the first player to play in each round). Registration starts from 10.30am and bowling will begin at noon. To register just call into The Club. Bowls supplied if you need them and all you have to do is make sure you wear flat soled shoes. Plenty of prizes to be won, tell the rellies and the batching neighbours, make it a must do event and let the fun begin to end 2013. Enquiries ph (09)4315085.
New Pipi Gallery
We are now open for business on our new premises. The Smashed Pipi Gallery has relocated and reopened its doors as The Pipi Gallery, we've decided to shorten the name as it won't fit on the new building! The smart new space, which includes an outdoor sculpture garden, is alongside Barbara's residence, and is now open for business – look for the big black and white sign.
Open daily from 9am – 5.30, closed on Christmas day

Bennetts – Eye Candy
Although it goes against my nature to boast (really it does), I must say we have created some amazing eye candy here at Bennetts.
We have collaborated with DDMMYY Studio to create new packaging that we absolutely adore. They've helped us reinvent our designs, yet keep the essence of our brand.
We love the new look and feel and we can't wait for you to feast your eyes upon these works of art. Each box has its own personality and unique design.
It wouldn’t be a Kiwiana Christmas without the iconic NZ fruit flavours found in out tasty truffle box.
December Chocolate of the Month
We are excited to launch another new Chocolate for this month that was developed by David the Chocolatier – Martini Vesper in dark chocolate, this has been made for our Cocktail Collection out now. We will be sampling this for the month of December, so don’t forget to pop in and tantalize your taste buds.
New Bennetts Location
We are thrilled to announce that we’re opening a new Bennetts shop at Italia Square on 100 Parnell Road! Italia Square will be NZ first authentic Italian market. Another fabulous location to enjoy Bennetts Chocolates.
Ice Cream by Emily

Thank you to all those who voted for the Fairy Tern – Sea Bird of the Year, it was a close race against Fiji Petrel, but we pulled through. We are very proud to be associated with this project and to help bring awareness to our most endangered bird in NZ. You can still help by purchasing our Fairy Tern chocolates, where all proceeds are given back to the Fairy Tern Trust.
Christmas Closing Dates
It’s that time of year again where we take a couple of days off to put our feet up and enjoy the festive season & sunny weather with our family and friends. Bennetts complex will be closed on 25th Dec. Christmas and 26th Dec. Boxing day this year. Back open with normal hours on 27th Dec.
A new local calendar is at the printers and about to hit the streets in time for summer. Profits will be donated to local organisations and can be purchased from Mangawhai Books & Gifts. For more information contact Rob (09)4380904.
