Troubador line 1Get your walking shoes ready

Room2Groove 1Entries are open for the annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend from 4th – 7th April.

This year local marathon runner Robert Scott (“Scottie”) will be leading the inaugural Mangawhai Off-Road Pack Fun Run. It is a relatively flat run covering 10km through the forest down to the beach. Entrants choose from one of three running rates so that participants can run together with others of a similar level.
Go to www.mangawhaiwalkingweekend.co.nz to check out the range of walks and talks on offer. Book soon so you won’t be disappointed, as many of the walks book out quickly. A red line will show on the booking form as the walks fill up. Call Jean Goldschmidt on 09 431 5096 for phone bookings.

Why not warm up for the Walking Weekend with a well-known local walk? Last of the Summer Wine is an easy and enjoyable 30-minute ramble through Mangawhai Park. The trail begins behind the Mangawhai Club at the base of the boardwalk to the Lookout. There are a few short climbs and drops but it is mostly downhill through a mix of native and exotic vegetation. The track links to Walk 2 or you can exit at Thelma Road. The track is suitable for walkers and runners but not pushchairs.

mangawhai golf courseThe Mangawhai Golf Club

Has consistently been regarded as one of the top courses in New Zealand. It was ranked 20th in the top 25 courses in New Zealand by a panel of NZPGA Professionals and Golf Travel operators in 2010. Meticulously maintained, the course has a demanding mix of wide and narrow fairways, and undulating greens surrounded by native bush and wetlands that attract a wide range of bird life. Weather does not affect the course, even during the wettest winters, due to its excellent drainage qualities.
It is a magnificent course in both winter and summer.
The Clubhouse sits above the course providing a spectacular outlook along with bar & café facilities.
