Welcome in an Arty Spring!
Mangawhai comes alive as artists open their studios and galleries to the public. The Mangawhai Art Trail features something for everyone including: painting (oils, acrylics and pastels), heirloom hand - crafted furniture, jewellery, one-off funky clothing, corrugated iron art, photography, pottery, printmaking, wood carving, sculpture (wood, soft stone, ceramics) and outdoor art. Held over two days The Mangawhai Art Trail coincides this season with the changeover to Daylight Saving. A group exhibition will be hosted at Mangawhai's New Museum on Molesworth Drive.
As part of the Art Trail weekend and to celebrate the decision by Mangawhai Artists Inc to set up an Art Centre in Mangawhai Community Park there will be two fundraising events:
Entry to each venue is free. Studios and galleries are marked with ART signs and colourful flags. Maps will be available from the new Museum, Sail Rock Café, Mangawhai Information Centre. Please note: photos shown are indicative only of the artworks on offer.

"I make no secret of my love of local ingredients and flavours so you won’t be surprised at my newest venture to capture the taste of Mangawhai. Not so long ago on a cool, grey morning I collected a bucket of water from the beach and began the process of making our own salt. It might sound a bit crazy but it worked! We heated the sea water slowly and waited for the crystals to form. What we ended up with was a tray of perfect large, flaky sea-salt crystals or if we want to get a bit posh, a tray of Mangawhai Fleur de Sel. David has trialed our Fleur de Sel in our salted caramel chocolate and the local, fresh sea-salt makes this chocolate hum." Mary Bennett

We have invited the Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae to officially open the Museum for our community on this date! More details later! Our volunteer groups are working very hard to prepare everything for exhibition, the cataloguing, the verification of all our stories and photographs, and finally the boys on the build who are working every day as volunteers to complete the displays in time! The Café is underway. Sharyn and helpers are very busy in the gardens with a Rock Entrance being constructed on Thelma Road and more planting on the roadside.
If you would like to donate some money for plants or landscaping or have plants you think may be useful, I am sure Sharyn would love to hear from you. She has a landscaping plan to follow. Phone Sharyn, 4314838.
