NEST 1-291-263Northlands Rescue Helicopter

A call for public donations for Northland’s Rescue Helicopters is now more important than at any time in the history of the service.

The Northland air ambulance operation continues to be one of the busiest in New Zealand and with an annual funding shortfall of $1.4m, the 2016 fundraising campaign now underway is critical to keep saving lives of Northlanders and visitors to the region.

For every dollar raised by public donations in this year’s Northland’s Rescue Helicopter appeal, the two principal sponsors, Northpower and Top Energy, will match the figure dollar for dollar up to $150,000.

The 2016 campaign focuses on many of the parts of our community where the Northland Rescue Helicopters are so critical – forestry, farming, children, water-sports and our Northland roads. Already in 2016 Northland’s Rescue Helicopters have completed more than 550 flights, with hundreds more expected before year end. The average cost per call-out is around $6800, while a return flight from Whangarei to Kaitaia alone costs more than $6600.

Save a mate, save a life because it could be yours – donate today at any ASB or at nest.org.nz. Help our life-saving Northland Rescue Helicopters. Follow the 2016 fundraising campaign on facebook/northland.rescuehelicopter.

MERMAIDS ABBA - KAIWAKA A5jpg-859ABBA lives again

October 1st
Doors open at 7pm
BYO and attendees may bring a plate for sharing

Both young and old know that powerful sound of Joe Cotton, Amber Claire and Pauline Berry who comprise The Mermaids. Now, joined by keyboardist Stuart Pearce of Hello Sailor fame, they are coming to Hakaru RSA to present a night of ABBA.

This will be an evening to enjoy and celebrate the magic and musical genius of the Swedish quartet who took the musical world by storm in the 70s but whose upbeat harmonies remain favourites today.

The vocalists perform in fantastic costumes from the glam rock ABBA era and you will simply be unable to resist being drawn along in the moment. Audience participation and dancing is encouraged.

The band will start with a set of popular classic and current dance hits which will include light latin, pop, rock and roll, waltz and some Top 40. This will be followed by a costume change and the ABBA show; two hours comprising of 26 of ABBA's most beloved songs. The show will conclude between 10.30 and 11pm.

The local community will be providing tea and coffee plus light snacks.

n The Mermaids Perform The Music Of ABBA, October 1, Hakaru Hall. Doors open 7pm. Tickets $25 from Eventfinder.co.nz or phone sales 0800 BUY TIX (289 849)

Squeaky Clean laundry service owner/operator, Vicki Cagan, has also partly shifted her business to the laundromat and will be offering her ironing, cleaning services from the premises between 11am – 2pm.

Looking to steer away from traditional European dining, the American chef with 20 years experience is well-versed in a variety of tastes and styles: slow cooked meats, smaller dishes, smoked barbecue-type meals, tapas, a new slow-style of marinated ribs done the American way with his own spice mix and 24 hour preparation, and of course American style chicken wings.

Our establishment has no specific association with any particular brewery or their product, allowing us to stock a wider range of beverages and more boutique lines.
