Happy trampers on the Brynderwyn Hills Walkway
Below is a sample of the walks offered
- Rambler's Food Experience - a versatile mix of new and established lifestyle farmers (olives, avocados, passionfruit, farmland, vineyard) share their passion and knowledge, with a touch of history from a local farmer.
- Waipu - a beautiful walk over farmland, estuary and beach with members of a Wapiu farming family who have links to the original settlers.
- Star Trek - a look at the night sky over Mangawhai. Karen Kommetry (Mangawhai Focus Newspaper contributor) shares her telescope and astronomy knowledge.
- Rural Advetnure - Tuscany in Tern Point. A Garden Walk with picnic lunch in an olive grove.
- Truffle Walk - stroll among the hazelnut and oak trees of pretigious Te Arai Farm Park development. Learn about the magical black truffle, its development and harvesting.
- Marunui Conservation - King Road Bush Walk - walk the southern side of the Brynderwyns through beautiful native bush with magnificent stands of kauri, rimu and tarairi to the Mangawhai Stream.
Added attractions that ran in conjunction with the Walking Weekend were:
- The Art Trail, an opportunity to view local artists in their studios
- Lunch with Ray McVinnie, at Grandvue Estate. Be wined and dined with Kim Crawford wine and magnificent local produce
- Savour Magical Mangawhai, a wine and food experience at the Mangawhai Olive Plantation showcasing Ascension Wines, Bennetts of Mangawhai handmade chocolates and LA County Fair "Best in Show"award-winning Te Arai Olive Estate Olive Oils
Many walkers have been every year, returning with friends and family. There are people from all 'walks of life' from Auckland, Warkworth, Whangarei, many locals and those from other surrounding districts. It's all about meeting people, enjoying the outdoors, and sampling the opportunities found in Mangawhai.
REGISTRATION
The Mangawhai Walking Weekend Registrations open in January of each year. Numbers are limited so make sure you get your registration in early.
