Two of Mangawhai’s valued community groups are joining together to fundraise to contribute to their development plans. The sculpture garden weekend is in the garden of Isabel and Brian Hollis. The beauty of the garden will delight gardeners and non gardeners. It is a beautiful setting for the work of over 20 local artists. There will be sculptures for sale and others to look at and enjoy.
A special part of the sculpture garden experience will be sculptures by Joy Agar who passed away in 2013. Joy was a dynamic force in Mangawhai’s art scene and she was the first Chair of Mangawhai Artists Inc. Joy’s work is familiar to Mangawhai people; she made and designed the Mangawhai Museum Stingray.
The money raised will be equally shared between Te Whai Community Trust Mangawhai and Mangawhai Artists Inc, who are expanding their gallery in the village to include an year-round studio for workshops and learning activities. To support the fundraising, all the artists are making a contribution to have their sculptures exhibited and will pay commission on sales.
Both organisations are based in Mangawhai; both nurture our community. Both provide opportunities and support for the growing Mangawhai community.
